St Johns place Flats, Canterbury
After the effects of the pandemic on everyone and indeed the construction industry. We were delighted to begin construction on a three story block of flats, with a shop front in the heart of Canterbury’s city centre for Torran Projects Ltd.
Following the work of Torran Construction Ltd and their completion of the extensively reinforced concrete foundations and initial slab, as well as the groundworks involved in providing appropriate services the flats we then took over as main contractor for the duration of the build.
Being in Canterbury and it being such a tight site in order to build, road closures were inevitable and our first one to oversee came when OFP began their work in erecting the timber frame which would provide the skeleton for our project. Building off a single course of blockwork, outlining the floorplan, a crane was hired in order for OFP to carry out their craftsmanship.
Our task of soundproofing on this project was extensive in order to meet the requirement from building control. The floor make up involved laying foam joists on top of the OSB board with 40mm acoustic rockwool in between. Soundproof plasterboard on top of that and chipboard tongue and groove on top of that to finish the first fix flooring. Each flat was then insulated further later in the build with underlay underneath the final finished flooring, different in each flat respectively.
following the plasterers work and working around the electricians and plumbers, in each flat we were able to crack on with the kitchens, flooring, door linings and doors and skirting.
The overall finished product of St. Johns place was truly beautiful. Only possible due to the high level of our, and our sub contractors work. Our ability enabling us to succeed in achieving the clients vision.
